Outdoor Learning

Here at London Colney we strive for excellence, constantly looking for ways to provide our pupils with engaging and enriching experiences that will positively impact their achievement, both academically and personally. A big focus of ours is to develop and promote the use of the ‘outdoor classroom’ allowing children to take their learning outside. There is a plethora of research to show that children having the opportunity to learn outside has a huge impact on their achievement, behaviour, attendance and mental health and wellbeing – everything we strive for. All of our children have the opportunity to take part in outdoor learning, including Forest School sessions and bush craft activities. On this page you will see a range of examples of our children taking part in our outdoor learning programme …

  • PGL Adventure

🌊🏹 Year 6 at PGL – Day of Adventure! 🎯💦

What an action-packed day! Year 6 started off with raft building – teamwork, laughter, and a few wobbly moments before jumping into the lake for a refreshing swim! 🛶💧

Next up was archery, where we channelled our inner Robin Hoods, followed by an epic laser tag battle through the woods! 🔫🌲

The smiles say it all – confidence is growing, friendships are stronger, and memories are being made. 💙

  • PGL

    🔥🌲 Trapeze and Marshmallows! 🌲🔥
What an incredible day at PGL! From soaring through the air on the trapeze to toasting marshmallows around the campfire, our children are making unforgettable memories, building confidence, and having so much fun!
The laughter, teamwork, and bravery on display today made us all so proud. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

  • PGL Disco

    🌟 PGL Disco Magic! 💃🕺🌅
What a night! Our Year 6 children had an unforgettable evening at the PGL disco — dancing, laughing, and enjoying every moment together. As the music played and the sun set behind them, the sky lit up just like their smiles. ✨🎶
It’s been a weekend full of adventure, team spirit, and now a perfect evening to celebrate it all. We’re so proud of the way they’ve embraced every moment of PGL!
  • Knebworth

    🚌✨ Knebworth House Adventures! ✨🏰
Our children had a fantastic time exploring the beautiful grounds and rich history of Knebworth House! From discovering grand architecture and secret gardens to learning about life in the past, it was a day full of curiosity, excitement, and memorable experiences.
A big thank you to our staff and parent helpers for making the trip run so smoothly, and well done to our children for representing the school so brilliantly!
  • Allotment

    🌱 Allotment Update! 🌿
We’re excited to share the progress on our school allotment! The children have been hard at work planting, watering, and learning all about how things grow — and it’s starting to show! 🥕🍓🌻
It’s been a wonderful hands-on learning experience, and we’re so proud of the care and enthusiasm they’ve shown. Keep an eye out for updates as we harvest our first crops and put them to good use in class!
  • Garden Centre

Year 3 – We started our science topic Plants by going to visit a garden centre. As we are planning to start our own herb garden, we smelt all the herbs then as a class decided which ones we should buy. Once we had agreed we then walked around to look at all the different types of plants. The staff were very helpful and taught as that it is not only the flowers that have a fragrance, but the leaves do too. We decided to buy a few plants for our classroom.
