Year 4 and Year 5 trip to Silverstone – November 2023

Our Year 4 and Year 5 children went on a school trip to Silverstone and had the best time, they thoroughly enjoyed the day and even wrote a card to say thank you to the office staff for organising.

In Nursery this week, we have been talking about the seasons. We have focused our learning on the season of Autumn. We talked about how and why the leaves change colour and fall from the trees. Art

In art we have been learning about the artist, ‘Yayoi Kusama’ Her art work is based on using dots. As part as black history month and Science, we have been learning about Mae Jemison. We decided to paint a portrait of her using the same style of art as Yayoi Kusama.

Maths

In maths we  have been learning about place value and  2 – digit numbers using dienes, money and bead strings.

English

In Year 2, we have been reading the story, ‘Coming to England’. We made story boxes to help us retell the story. We painted pictures of our favourite parts and wrote sentences.

Maths

This week in Maths, Year 4 have been learning about place value, in particular comparing numbers using “greater than” and “less than” terminology. We have been exploring this concept through various manipulatives such as, using denes, counters, number cards and dice.

KS1 – Fire station visit – October 2023

KS1 had an exciting visit from St Albans Fire Station. The children had an amazing time learning all about the Fire Engine.

Subtraction

In Maths this week, we have been learning how to subtract numbers from within 10. We have used our prior learning of ‘part whole models’ to support our understanding of subtraction.
